Cornwall top of the Staycation hotspots

2022 Continues to see Cornwall top of the Staycation hotspots

2020 – 2021 were the years where many people experienced disappointment after disappointment when their long-earned holiday plans abroad were postponed and cancelled because of the pandemic. As the saying goes, ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ and for many the chance to rediscover the joys of holidaying was something of a wonderful surprise.

Cornwall has been named the UK’s favourite destination for holidays in the British Travel Awards for an amazing 8 years running. In 2021, the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce estimated that an additional 30,000 people visited their region compared to previous year.

It is easy to see why we continue to draw first time and repeat visitors to our doorstep in Cornwall. We have all this for you and your loved ones to enjoy:

  • 300 miles of stunningly beautiful coastline
  • 12 areas of majestic and outstanding natural beauty including the dramatic cliffs of the North and of course the hypnotic hills of Bodmin Moor, where our self-catering accommodation is situated.
  • Incredible choice of mouth-watering restaurants, cafes, and bars.
  • Over 2,400 miles of inland walking trails
  • Exciting and educational visitor attractions

As we leave Easter behind and head into what’s going to be one of our busiest booking seasons yet, our advice is to source and book your Cornwall Accommodation early.

“Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.”

– Henry David Thoreau.

NOW is the time to put your dates in the diary and secure your preferred dates to stay in Cornwall. Cornwall Holiday Retreats have two quality holiday apartments to rent out this year.

Romantic Breaks are not just for Valentine’s Day

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we are bombarded with messages inviting us to stock up on cards, flowers, chocolates, and the pressure to deliver that special something on the day can be immense.

If you are more spontaneous and prefer the idea of whisking off the love in your life to spend quality time, Cornwall, we suggest that you bypass February 14th, and consider a break to Bodmin Moor, in March, just after Half Term and before the Easter rush starts.

March in Cornwall means you can still enjoy that perfect, peaceful private time with each other, find a deserted beach for you to stroll hand in hand on, discover new pastimes and hobbies to keep that spark alive and get your minibreak at a reasonable price ahead of peak season.

If all this sounds good, check out our availability here at the Cornwall Holiday Retreats to find a date that suits you both. If it’s just the two of you looking for a loved up break, we suggest you consider booking our eco-friendly “The Old Coffee Shop” which starts at just £79 per night in Low Season, March included! For more info visit here.

When you come and stay with us, here are a few typically Romantic things to do in the area!

  • GHOST HUNT at the nearby Jamaica Inn. Cling on to each other as tight as you can as a night of paranormal shenanigans await at one of these special evening events. Booking advised.

  • STARRY NIGHTS. Grab your warmest clothes, cuddle up close to your loved one and don’t forget to pack the champagne as you head up towards North Cornwall for some stargazing! The Cornwall sky is famous for its beautiful twinkling night sky.

  • ARE YOU A POLDARK FAN? As a couple you may have a common interest in all things Poldark. Then head to west Cornwall, and find the spot where Ross takes a dip in the ocean as he is secretly watched by Demelza……swoon, then off you go and recreate the scene yourselves!

So, if you are deliberating a weekend break in Cornwall just to buy in to Valentine’s Day, take a moment and remember that romance is something that should come from the heart. We look forward to meeting you soon at the Cornwall Holiday Retreat.

 IT’S OH, SO QUIET…. Sshhhh

An obvious thing to note but Winter is low season for most of our wonderful country and Cornwall in particular. This means that it is oh so quiet, but wonderfully so. Visitor attractions will not have long queues, restaurants will have shorter wait times, and the beaches are practically empty. So, if you want to marvel at our dramatic landscapes, get lost in your thoughts on a beach stroll with the wind in your face, then this time of the year is perfect for you. Wrap up, get outside, and experience it first-hand.

Low season travel is always going to be kinder on our pocket and let’s be honest we can all feel it after Christmas spending. Winter and Spring in Cornwall will cost you less, and that means terrific value for money. Whether its car rental, staying at the Cornwall Holiday Retreats or dining out, get more bang for your buck.

After a gentle hike on the moors, or a brisk walk on a deserted beach, you cannot do better than a traditional Cornish comfort food to warm and nourish you and your soul. Make sure you try the iconic Cornish pasty with beer gravy, Stargazy pie and of course cream tea.

Of course, a visit to our local “Jamaica Inn” on Bodmin Moor will also put a pep in your step, especially if you opt to experience one of their well-known “Ghost Hunt” evenings. Watch out for their “Ghost Hunt” events happening in January 2021. More info here.

Get your bucket list out for 2022, and if a visit to Cornwall Holiday Retreats is there, don’t delay get booking for a Winter or Spring break, you won’t regret it.

What you need to consider before booking your holiday rental

“Staycation” is here to stay for the foreseeable future for obvious reasons. For the last few years, online search has become the no. 1 way of researching, planning and booking our own holidays and short breaks. We are very proud of our Cornwall holiday retreat properties that are available to book online, and are so pleased with all the feedback we have received about our properties, location and local facilities, so thank you!

If you haven’t booked with us yet and are wondering how if either our “Treview” or “Old Coffee shop” apartments are right for you and your group, perhaps the below may help you decide.

Is location the most important factor for you?

If you are looking for a quiet, rural location surrounded by nature, yet nearby to a village and facilities including a village pub, village shop and all wi fi, we think you will be very happy here. We are also surrounded by a wide variety of moor walks and of course within easy driving distance of several award winning Cornish beaches.

To Self-Cater or not, that is the question?

Do like staying in hotels where most of your needs including meals are catered for….or are you more comfortable with the communal space of an apartment where you can relax and enjoy dining and spending time together as a couple, family or group?  All our apartments are very kitted out and offer all the usual facilities including a well equipped kitchen, superb laundry facilities, free parking and more.

The all-important question, your budget?

Most people will have a general idea of what their overall budget is. Are you factoring in transport costs? Food and beverage costs? Dining out costs? Attractions and activities? How many nights are you looking to spend away? Older guests tend to have more disposable income, whereas younger guests may look to split your budget and ensure maximum occupancy of your chosen property. The time and effort you spend ensuring you are planning a holiday that you can afford, will pay dividends in the long run.

Cornwallholidayretreats.co.uk offer excellent value with our properties starting from just £37 per person per night in high season! (*Price based on 3 sharing the Old Coffee Shop, Arrival August 2021, for a min 7 night stay)

The “Great Bodmin and Cornwall Outdoors” is waiting.

The Bodmin & Wenford Railway will get back on track on May 18th after a third lockdown. The track is just over 6 miles long and runs from Bodmin Parkway through to Boscarne Junction via the line’s principal station at Bodmin General where all trains reverse.
